The way Connexions is set up and run changed in 2008 – but the important thing as far as young people are concerned is that we are still there to provide you with information, advice and guidance on those things that matter to you.

Check out this area of the website to find out more about what has happened. There’s an FAQ page which gives the answers to some of the questions you might have. And if you’ve still got unanswered questions after reading that, you can use our Online Query service to send us your questions.

OK, so what was behind all this change?

When Connexions was set up in 2002, it was a Government-funded service – which meant that each year, we received a pot of money to provide the Connexions service for all 13-19 year olds across Birmingham and Solihull.

That has now changed, and from April 2008 the money that pays for the Connexions service is given to each local authority for them to run the service – both Birmingham and Solihull local authorities decided that they would take over a part of the Birmingham & Solihull Connexions company – “transition” was the name given to this process of change. So now young people in Birmingham get information, advice and guidance from Connexions Birmingham (part of Birmingham City Council), who run this website. If you are from Solihull, you can get information, advice and guidance from Connexions Solihull (part of Solihull MBC) and you can find out more from their area on the Solihull MBC website.

This transition was too big to do all at once, so from April 2008, there was a gradual change – things like new signs appearing on offices and logos changing on our publications and elsewhere.

The important thing to remember is that Connexions is still there for you.
