About Connexions Birmingham

Following changes to the way the Connexions service is delivered nationally, Connexions Birmingham is now part of Integrated Services within Birmingham City Council’s Children, Young People and Families Directorate.

Our core service hasn’t changed, and we continue to provide information, advice and guidance for all young people aged 13 to 19, and up to age 25 for those with a learning difficulty and/or disability.

The nature and degree of support we provide will vary from young person to young person. We don’t believe in a one-size-fits-all solution which is why our involvement with young people will depend entirely on their needs. Some young people need intense support to help them cope with potential barriers but the majority will just need a little bit of information to help them on their way to a chosen career path. Others might require advice and guidance about life and career options available to them.

This is achieved by bringing together a range of services and support for young people, delivered by Connexions Personal Advisers (PAs) in a range of settings such as schools, colleges and Connexions Centres which offer appointment and drop-in services. One of the main reasons for young people contacting Connexions Birmingham is for advice about work or training — making us uniquely placed to help your business access the most suitable candidates.

Every year, thousands of young people in Birmingham become available to the labour market. No matter how bright and clever they are, many of them don’t want to go on to college or university full time but instead choose to take advantage of an employment opportunity.

We believe that Connexions Birmingham can contribute to local growth and prosperity by working with employers like you, ensuring that you have the raw talent that will be a factor in your workforce development plan and ultimately that your business has people to follow in your most valued employees’ footsteps. The Opportunities Team within Connexions Birmingham is a group of experienced and highly trained sector specialists, who work directly with employers from all sectors, providing a no-cost recruitment and consultancy service to find the right young person for your vacancy. And just as importantly, the right vacancy for a young person.

The team continues a successful role that began over 30 years ago as part of the Careers Service and has developed a unique resource bringing together employers and the young employees who could benefit your business in the future.
